TeleAtlas Dynamap 5-Digit ZIP Codes
This product includes the most current cartographic information available on US Postal Service 5-Digit ZIP Codes.
TeleAtlas Dynamap/5-Digit ZIP Codes contain the ZIP Codes for the U.S. For each state including D.C. there is a ZIP Code table that contains all unique boundary and point ZIP Codes for that state. This product is useful because:
- Only one ZIP table is necessary for geocoding. This eliminates the confusion over geocoding with the boundary or point tables.
- Geocoding is faster with a higher expected hit rate. The smaller size of ZIP Code files and unique ZIP Codes speed the geocoding process.
- The combined boundary and point table supports thematic mapping for area shading as well as point thematic mapping.
- The inclusion of a Residential PO category that identifies large apartment buildings and college dorms that have unique ZIP Codes, allows for correctly located geocoded points within an enclosing ZIP Code boundary.
ZIP Codes may be known by more than one Post Office (PO) name. For instance ZIP Code 12204 is known as Albany, NY and Menands, NY. Because of this, each state will include a Post Office Names table associated with each ZIP Code that has multiple Post Office names for identification.
Also included with the ZIP Codes:
- A category called Residential PO consisting of PO Box ZIP Codes (usually point ZIPs) that are predominantly residential in nature such as apartment buildings and college dormitories. This allows for more accurate point dispersion when geocoding and more representative thematic mapping.
- Up to the 3 most prominent county FIPS codes are kept in the product covering that ZIP Code.
- The product offers State abbreviations and State FIPS codes to make the identification of ZIP locations more intuitive.
