Total Vehicles in Operation
The MapInfo Total Vehicles in Operation database summarizes actual motor vehicle registrations (cars & trucks) collected from the provincial registrars.
This data refers to the number of vehicles still on the road by model year, segment and origin as of July 1, and not by number of vehicles originally sold. TVIO is updated annually.
Manufacturers determine the length of the model year, primarily for marketing and design resigns. For example, the 2009 model year would normally run from September 2008 through to September 2009, at which time the next model year would be introduced. Some manufacturers have been known to extend the model year, skip a model year or not even introduce the model year into Canada for that model.
The vehicle counts represent those registrations that have been successfully geocoded.
Data is available for PCensus at standard census geographies (Dissemination Area levels and higher) and postal FSA's.
